Bee Pollen in the Raw!

,
3D ANIMATION :

Have you ever imagined what life would be like if you lived to be 100 years old or more? Most people cannot fathom living to 90 let alone 100. An antioxidant rich diet can help slow down the aging process and help repair damaged cells. The best way to do this is by feeding the human body fruits and vegetables in their raw form, and consuming raw bee pollen is no different.

It's Time to Get Raw!

Consuming fruits and vegetables in their raw form means that they are uncooked, not frozen but fresh and plucked from the garden. This is important because when cooking vegetables and fruits, especially under induction of heat, it diminishes their nutrients significantly. Cooking with the use of a microwave is like cooking your food with radiation, and when you consume that you consume trace amounts of radiation. While many argue that this is not significant, look at the rate of cancer in the United States; it far exceeds that of any other country and there are plenty of reasons why.

Raw pollen is not subjected to any of these methods, which is why it's so pure and natural in the state it's in. Pollen is not something we have to cook either, and when we use pots and pans that are coated with chemicals those also cook into our food, those chemicals are transferred into what we are eating.

Think of it another way; birds and other animals survive on a very simple diet of grass, nuts, seeds, and other vegetation. They don't require the use of a microwave, cookware, or preservatives either and they have such energy and vitality without our help. Animals and birds can fully survive on their own with nature, and they don't need our help or our inventions. Maybe we could learn something from them!

So What is Raw Bee Pollen Anyway?

When you hear people refer to raw pollen they are referring to pollen that hasn't been processed, refined, or ground down into something else. Pollen doesn't need any refining and is loaded with vitamins and minerals just the way it is. When the nutrients are put through modern machinery and are exposed to oxygen and light, they begin to break down and take away from the real treasure trove that was once loaded with vitamins, minerals, trace enzymes and amino acids.

This wonder supplement is potent, a rich source of protein and there isn't any need for us to ruin it by changing it in any way. When shopping always read the label to see what it says, and look for the raw label. Raw pollen is going to be in a bottle or in a bag, not found in prepackaged boxes that are loaded with preservatives and additives. If you aren't sure if it is what you are looking for, then ask someone who works there and they should know the difference.

In conclusion, raw pollen is always best, and it's loaded with everything the human body needs and more. By eating bee pollen and fruits and vegetables in their raw form our bodies will be getting filled with good nutrition. As always, when shopping, bee a label reader!

Animal Adoption - Costs, Benefits and Considerations

,
3D ANIMATION :

Adopting an animal can be an excellent choice for pet lovers. The advantages of adopting are numerous; costs are lower than buying a pet, animal shelters offer a large variety of companion animals, most mixed breed animals do not inherit breed specific health issues, older animals in shelters already have developed personalities and therefore it's easier to find a pet that will match with your lifestyle, older pets will be spayed or neutered and vaccinated, you may receive discounts for spay or neuter programs if you adopt a young pet, you can adopt a bonded animal pair or litter mates at reduced cost, and shelter workers are genuinely concerned that you find the right pet for your lifestyle.

Cost of animals and types of animals up for adoption vary by areas. In my area a puppy adoption is 0 and an adult cat is only . When you compare the cost of buying a pet, to adopting an animal, it's much cheaper to adopt. For example typical cost to purchase a puppy are 0-0, plus first year vaccinations 0-0 and possibly some health tests not provided by the breeder which can add another -0. Most often when you adopt a puppy from the shelter the adoption fee insures the puppy has already been treated for fleas, passed a health examination, received vaccinations (if the animal is old enough), and has been tested for parvovirus. Some shelters in the south also test dogs for heart worm.

In dogs, distemper, parvo-influenza, and heart worm are terminal illnesses, if they are untreated. Adult cats adopted from the shelter are spayed or neutered, vaccinated for distemper, tested for Feline Aids(FIV) and Feline Leukemia (FELV) (which can both be terminal illnesses), and are treated for fleas. When you compare this with the cost of purchasing a cat (0-00) or taking on a "free kitten", animal adoption again proves to be much cheaper. Typical costs for FIV and FELV testing are - for each test, spaying at maturity -90, or neutering -, and first year vaccinations 0-0. So your "free kitten" can cost more than 0 for the first year of medical care. Additionally, many shelters also test for other diseases such as worms, and the shelter will be open and honest about known disabilities such as hearing or vision impairments.

Shelter employees and volunteers do a great job of helping you pick an animal that is right for your lifestyle. Typically, there are wide varieties of adoptable pets available. Most shelters have dogs and cross-breed puppies ranging from tiny to large, short-haired to fluffy, and personalities that range from shy lap dogs to high energy running companions. Cats selection can ran from large Maine-coon mixes, to high energy Siamese mixes, to fluffy mellow Angoras. My local shelter also services other companion animal adoption such as ferrets, pot belly pigs and goats. Occasionally, shelters have purebred animals available for adoption. (Also, see my article on purebred adoptions).

There are other benefits of adopting an animal from a shelter. Mixed bred animal may be healthier and calmer than some purebred animals. Certain purebred often have genetic disorders (due to the inbreeding). For example, many large purebred dogs develop hip dysplasia (a malformation of the hip joint that causes arthritis). Small purebred dogs with pug noses may develop respiratory disorders. Disorders associated with specific breeds can be found in mixed breed dogs and cats, but are far less likely to occur. Older pets available for adoption from the shelter have developed personalities and therefore it is easier to adopt an animal that will be right for your household. For example, if you have children, the shelter worker will introduce you to the pets that are the best suited to your household. If you're single and want a jogging partner, the shelter worker can introduce you to a healthy high energy dog companion. You may think you want a dog, but after speaking with a shelter worker, realize your lifestyle is far more suited to an adult cat. Some shelters provide ongoing benefits, such as reduced vaccination cost, reduced training costs or provide a list of auxiliary services.

If you want to select from a wide variety of pets, the best time of year is during spring and early fall which are breeding seasons. Shelters are inundated with strays. Christmas is a bad time of year to adopt an animal for several reasons; many people adopt at this time of year so selection will be limited, it hard on the animal (due to lack of routines and chaos that often accompanies the holiday) and, it's may curtail your travel plans. (See my article on Christmas animal adoption).

To find an adoption center in your area contact the Humane Association of the United States, check with a local veterinarian, or inquire at a locally owned pet supply stores. Each year the United States destroys more than 4,000,000 companion animals. By adopting an animal from a shelter you are saving a life. However, please consider the long term care required, before you purchase or adopt a pet.

Top Reasons Why You Need a Winter Vacation

,
3D ANIMATION :

The earth gives us tons of reasons to enjoy. If you are living in the western are of the world, you are most likely to experience the four seasons. Autumn, winter, spring and fall are the different types of seasons that occur annually. Summer is much associated with the blazing heat of the sun. Most of the kids love summer because they are off from class for two months. Moreover, plants are very much appreciated during the spring season. Meanwhile, fall has been the early indication of winter. The plants are starting to drop their leaves. Nevertheless, winter is also known as the white and cold season.

It is often associated with the white crystalline snow. Although, most of the time winter can create trouble due to the cold temperature it brings, everyone still rejoices because it is also an early indication of the Christmas season.

Winter is the coldest season of the year and with the characteristics of having longer nights and shorter days. It commonly occurs during the months of December, January and February for those who live in the Northern Hemisphere areas. Meanwhile, June, July and August are the months for the citizens of Southern Hemisphere to enjoy or suffer the cold climate.
The common effect of winter is migration for the animals particularly the birds. Some animals can no longer stand the coldness of the temperature. Migration is also one of the ways how animals survive on their own pace. Few animals who have thick coat manage to stay during the winter season. Animals born with the skills to adopt with the strange weather of nature are fortunate to stay alive. Their natural clothing thickens for them to stay warm throughout the season. Hibernation is also one of the coping mechanisms of animals when they can no longer stand the climate.

Animals are not the only living organisms that are very much affected by winter. Humans are also terribly concerned with the low level of temperature during such season. Winter often delays their works because the roads are already filled with snow. Machinery and factories are even forced to stop their operation because some of these machines are also affected with the low level of temperature.

Old folks are also generally affected of winter. They often complain about their arthritis and other bone related ailments. Sometimes even improvised and mechanical heaters can no longer neutralize the coldness of the weather. When you encounter this type of problem, the best thing to do is to call for a winter vacation. You can spend your days in a warmer side of the earth.

Tropical areas are best known for their enduring sun. You can rent a car and a hotel for your future summer vacation. Florida is also one of the most popular places where you can use up your vacation. If you are not yet familiar with Florida you can visit St. Augustine, it is one of its hottest spots. The good thing about having a winter vacation is that you will no longer worry about the cold weather, plus you can make most of your time.

The Truth About Trans Fats - How They Can Boost Your Metabolism and Particularly Burn Your Belly Fat

,
3D ANIMATION :

We often hear a wholesale condemnation of trans fats. Here are some facts about them:

What are trans fats?

Trans fats is an easier expression for trans fatty acids. They occur naturally and are also created artificially.

Natural trans fats

They occur in the digestive systems of ruminant animals such as bison, kangaroo, cows, goats and sheep. They are, therefore, found in their milk and meat.

[A ruminant animal is one that chews the cud-- the partly digested food that is sent back from the animal's first stomach to the mouth to be chewed once again].

Artificial trans fats

They are artificially created by passing hydrogen gas through the liquid vegetable oil. They are, therefore, also called hydrogenated fats.

Almost all the eatables such as crackers, cookies, potato chips that are produced with hydrogenated oil contain them. They are added to enhance their shelf life by keeping them fresh and crispy for years.

Man- made trans fats are very harmful for our health. They are even more harmful than saturated fats, which are considered the worst form of fats. The reason for this is that they not only raise the (bad) cholesterol level, but also reduce the HDL (High-density lipoprotein) also called good cholesterol.

HDL cleans the walls of blood vessels of the bad cholesterol, which can cause several problems by creating plaque in the arteries and blocking the free flow of blood. This can, therefore, cause health problems such as obesity, heart disease and cancer.

Here is, however, a shocking truth

Trans fats in their natural form can burn the belly fat if they are taken in small quantities as they are found in their host animals.

They contain trans isomers such as the CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) which is believed to have anti-carcinogenic( anti-cancer) and several other wholesome properties.

According to Mike Geary, a certified nutrition specialist, CLA is not only anti-carcinogenic, but is also a powerful fat burner. It can particularly burn the belly fat and make it slim and flat. It also improves the metabolism.

He, however, cautions against taking CLA supplements in form of pills as they contain artificially created isomer, which is different from the one found naturally in the animals. He further recommends that we should take CLA only from the meat and milk of the grass eating and not grain-fed ruminant animals. The beneficial CLA actually comes from grass.

5 Quick and Effective Weight Loss Tips

,
3D ANIMATION :

Are you lost in an avalanche of conflicting weight loss advice? You cannot begin any weight loss plan because you are too confused to start? The books in the bookstore and the ads on the Internet tell you to eat only animal protein, avoid animal protein, eat only fat, never eat fat, eat more fruit, never eat fruit... it is enough to make you want to stop eating altogether!

But weight loss does not have to be such a mystery. It is actually based on a very scientific principle that says it takes 3,500 calories to sustain one pound of fat, so to lose fat you simply need to "burn" more calories than you take in. So your goal should be to eat 500 fewer calories than you burn every day. Of course, the quality of those calories determines how quickly you lose weight, and how well you maintain your existing muscle mass and overall health in the process.

If you are ready to begin a healthy weight loss program that allows you to burn one pound of fat per week, simply follow these 5 weight loss tips.

1. Eat 4-5 small meals a day that total about 200-250 calories. This means you will have no trouble meeting the minimum calorie requirement of 1,000 calories per day, and should be well beneath your basal metabolic rate (the calories you burn in an average day without exercising).

2. Eat at least 50 grams of protein per day. Protein is an important part of any weight loss diet, as it keeps you feeling full and satisfied in between meals. It's best if your protein comes from lean meat such as chicken breast or fish, this will help keep your calorie count in check. Try eggs for breakfast, tuna for lunch, cottage cheese for a snack and chicken or fish for dinner, which would far exceed the minimum protein requirement.

3. Eat no more than 120 grams of carbohydrates per day, limiting sugar grams to 25 per day (15 is best). Just remember that not all carbohydrates are created equal: simple carbohydrates contain mainly sugar and are found in processed foods, while complex carbohydrates take longer to digest and keep you feeling full longer.

Complex carbs are found in vegetables and whole grains, so have a piece of whole wheat toast with breakfast or with your tuna sandwich at lunch, and plenty of vegetables at dinner. By all means, start reading food labels so your can shrink your sugar intake to the bare minimum of 15-25 grams per day. This will keep your blood sugar levels in line, which is absolutely critical to weight loss.

4. Exercise at least 30 minutes per day. If you are trying to slice 500 calories out of your day, it is unlikely you will be able to accomplish that simply by diet alone. You will lose weight much faster if you also include a daily cardio workout. Thirty minutes is enough, but try to vary the intensity of your workout by working hard for 2-3 minutes, then backing off for 2-3 minutes and repeating the pattern. By varying your heart rate, you program your metabolism to burn at a higher rate throughout the rest of your day.

5. Drink more water. And more water. And more water. If your kidneys are stressed due to dehydration, they kick their extra work over to the liver, which becomes too overloaded to provide optimum metabolic functions. So your body cannot lose weight when you are dehydrated, simple as that.

After following these 5 weight loss tips for a few weeks, you will find you have lost your craving for sugary snacks, your daily exercise will have become habit, and best of all, your jeans will fit!

Where Do I Get a Dog? - Part 3

,
3D ANIMATION :

One more place you can look for your next dog or puppy is directly from the people that breed the dogs. In this article we look at both backyard and professional breeders.

Newspaper Ads / Backyard Breeders: Local newspaper ads can sometimes be a good place to find a nice pet. The advantage here: local people that occasionally breed their own personal dogs place most of these ads. When you visit these puppies you are usually able to see the parents along with the puppies. In this situation you are able to observe the temperament of the father and the mother. You are also able to observe the puppies in relationship to the rest of the litter. Is the puppy you're considering shy and reserved or bold and rambunctious? Look closely; chances are his personality as a puppy will be his personality as an adult. Again, health is an important consideration here as well. Both of the puppy's parents should be in good health and both should have had their hips and their eyes cleared for genetic defects.

If these conditions are met, you've greatly enhanced your odds of having a well-adjusted, healthy pet. If you end up with a screwed up schizophrenic dog, you can rest assured it is your fault not the breeders.

Professional Breeders: These are people that have devoted a big part of their lives to a specific breed of dog. They all believe their breed of dog is the absolute best. They are located all over the country and generally have multiple litters of puppies available throughout the year. Let me caution you, these people are serious about their dogs and like most dog people (me included), they are all just a little bit crazy. They invest a great deal of their time and money in trying to breed the healthiest dogs they possibly can. When you call to inquire about buying one of their puppies you are likely to be grilled like you're interviewing for a job with Homeland Security. There is also a good chance they will make you sign a contract agreeing not to breed the dog you're getting, unless they say its OK. By the time you're done talking to them, you'll be asking yourself why you don't just go to the pet store. Hang it there and don't give up. When you buy from a reputable breeder, they stand behind the dogs they sell. They will take the dog back if it doesn't work out or a serious health issue arises. In my experience, professional breeders really do care about their animals and they want the best for them. This is not an emotional way to buy a dog. The breeders won't allow it. Like it or not, they will make damn sure you know every possible thing about that breed before any cash trades hands.

One word of caution here, not every dog produced by a breeder is perfect. Be somewhat leery if the breeder says something like, "I have one puppy left, but I'm thinking about keeping it for myself." Or, "I just had one puppy returned by someone who changed their mind." Two questions that would pop into my head are, "Why is this puppy the last one? And "Why was this puppy really returned." If the breeder can't give you a comforting answer, seriously think about continuing your search. Searching for the perfect dog only takes a finite period of time. Living with an unstable crazed animal can last considerably longer.

To find reputable breeders, pick up a copy of Dog World or Dog Fancy magazine and look in the breeder's section. You can also check online with the specific breed national associations. Many of these sites have lists of their breeders. Pick up the phone and talk to as many breeders as you can. The bad news with going the professional breeder route... Don't expect to be a guest on Oprah any time soon.

There are many different avenues to explore when looking to acquire a new dog. Unfortunately there is no "best" way to go about it. I encourage clients to approach getting a new pet with a ton of questions. When all your questions are answered, you're ready to start cleaning up a new puppy's mess. Congratulations.
