7 Key Steps to Adopting the Perfect Dog

,
3D ANIMATION :

A dog can be one of the most rewarding of pets, but also one of the most demanding. Selecting the right animal for you is an all-important aspect of the adoption process. One must consider a multitude of factors - ranging from living quarters to time commitments.

We all love to visualize a cute puppy playing innocently in the park. But is this the ideal pet for you? Do you have the time and patience to potty train and watch over the mischievous pup? Would an older dog better suit your lifestyle?

These questions, and many more, need to be answered before making such a critical decision. This is one time that you will be rewarded handsomely for considering all of the factors surrounding pet adoption. Remember, you owe it not only to yourself, but to your new best "friend".

Follow these 7 Key Steps and finding the right dog for you will be "doggone" easy.

Determine the right size dog for your living arrangements and lifestyle

Your living arrangements, whether sprawling house or urban apartment, can put limitations on what breed of dog will best suit you. A large breed dog, or hyperactive breed, may not be the best choice for an apartment dweller. Even in a larger home, these types of breeds generally demand lots of exercise and play time. Are you willing to make that kind of time commitment?

Consider the right temperament for your family situation

Like people, dogs have different temperaments. Some breeds are very laid-back and don't require a lot of maintenance, while other breeds can be very high-strung and demand lots of your attention. Certain breeds, by reputation, are not suitable for households with small children. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule, but as a general statement, avoiding these breeds is probably prudent.

Breeds that are considered playful and child-friendly include: Golden Retrievers, Beagles, Labrador Retrievers, Bearded Collies and Miniature Schnauzers, just to name a few.

Think about the climate where your dog will live

Arctic breeds, like Samoyeds and Huskies, have relatively thick coats and will be uncomfortable in hot, humid climates. Conversely, Greyhounds and other short-haired breeds can become very cold and chilled in more frigid climates. The point is to choose a breed that is compatible with your climate. Many breeds can adapt easily with proper protection, like a dog sweater, and limited exposure to extreme conditions.

Determine the amount of time you will have available for your new dog

Dogs are normally active pets and can, in seconds, go from lounging in their favorite spot to running laps with you around the track. One thing for certain, dogs need plenty of time for exercise and play. Of course, they expect you to be right there with them, joining in the fun.

You will also need to plan time for training, feeding, walking, and grooming your dog. Be certain that you can allocate this time, because all of these items are a must to ensure the well-being of your pet.

Consider whether a male or female dog is a better fit for your family

Though both males and females make great companion pets, males can sometimes have more behavioral problems and tend to be more rambunctious than females. Females are usually easier to house train, but may be more demanding of your attention. If size is a consideration, females are generally smaller in size than their male counterparts.

Strongly consider adopting a mixed-breed dog

Mixed-breed dogs often pick up the best traits of the combined breeds and are much less prone to inherited diseases and breed-specific behavioral problems. But as puppies, they can be a bit more difficult to predict their adult look and size.

However, mixed-breed "mutts" tend to have unique personalities and are very charming. An even better reason to consider a mixed breed is that many are in need of loving homes. If adopted, they tend to show their appreciation by becoming outstanding companions and faithful friends.

Spend as much time as possible with your prospective new family "member" before adopting

There is nothing like observing a pet firsthand to get a real feel for its personality. Watch the behavior of the dog or puppy and how he responds to children or other animals.

Ask these questions: What is his background? Is he friendly to people? Does he like to be petted? Does he look healthy? Does he act friendly with other animals? Does he obey any commands? Is he house-trained? The more answers you have to questions like these, the easier your decision will be.

And lastly, pets should never be an "impulse" purchase. The consequences of these decisions stay with you anywhere from 10 to 15 years. So be sure to take the time to match the right dog with your personal situation - it will make the experience one that you will cherish for a lifetime.

London Theatre Breaks Are A Fantastic Way To Spend Your Weekend

,
3D ANIMATION :

As it becomes increasingly easier and cheaper to travel from one area to another, people in today's modern world have started taking a number of weekend breaks to various parts of the country. Individuals and couples, both young and old, have begun travelling more often through a variety of mediums - be it by train, coach or aeroplane; many people these days are just as likely to spend a weekend in Rome or Madrid as they are in Blackpool or Cornwall. However, as weekend break locations have evolved, they have also become more imaginative; a rising number of people are taking mini-cruise breaks, weekend golf breaks, and even weekend theme park breaks.

One form of weekend break which is rapidly gaining popularity is the theatre break. More and more frequently, travel agents and travel companies are offering theatre break packages to London, Edinburgh, Stratford-upon-Avon and even Paris. The London theatre scene is flourishing at the moment and is perhaps the best location in Britain if you're thinking about taking a weekend theatre break. From the long running musical of Disney's The Lion King to the 2006 stage adaptation of the Oscar-winning movie Dirty Dancing, people keen on theatre breaks in London have more than a few excellent options to choose from on the West End stage.

The Lion King is current playing at London's Lyceum Theatre; seen by over 30 million people at over 18,000 performances world wide, the show contains over 232 puppets which represent 25 species of animals. While The Lion King remains one of the most popular shows in London's West End, many of the shows currently playing have a similarly enduring appeal. Billy Elliot, for example, is currently being shown at the Victoria palace Theatre and has been a popular musical in the capital for many years. We Will Rock You, a musical by Queen and Ben Elton, followed hot on the heels of the success of Mamma Mia and continues to play to packed crowds at the Dominion Theatre in Tottenham Court.

Other popular musicals playing in London's West End include Les Miserables at the Queen's Theatre, Mary Poppins at Prince Edward Theatre, Guys and Dolls at the Piccadilly Theatre and Andrew Lloyd Webber's all time classic, The Phantom of the Opera, playing at Her Majesty's Theatre. You can find fantastic deals on London theatre breaks from a variety of sources, including travel agents and transport providers like National Express. Theatre buffs looking for exciting weekend breaks will also enjoy Shakespeare theatre breaks in Stratford upon Avon, the bard's home town. You can also take delight in Edinburgh's vibrant theatre scene, where you'll be able to enjoy some excellent classic and modern productions at the Royal Lyceum Theatre, the Edinburgh Festival Theatre and the Brunton Theatre, among many others.

Arowana Care: There's a Fossil in My Tank!

,
3D ANIMATION :

The Amazon River is probably the most widely used poster image for biodiversity; the whole stretch of freshwater running for miles is the home to a huge fraction of the world's flora and fauna. Among the animals which live here, the fishes have the most number and most diverse. One of the well-known and well-loved fish species is what people call as the "water monkey of the Amazon" -- the arowana fish.

The earliest fossils of the ancestors of the arowanafish date to 200 million years ago in the rivers of Africa, but the fish we know today found its home in the Amazon River 140 millions of years ago, dating back to the Early Cretaceous period. Ever since then, given its superb features, the fish had changed very little; hence it is sometimes called as a living fossil. That is why the arowana does not look like the modern pet fishes which are commercially available; they boast a history dating millions of years back. This fish can grow to lengths of four to six feet, all thirty pounds of pure muscle which gives them excellent darting abilities. They also have huge eyes which led some ecologists to assume that they have one of the sharpest sights of all the fishes. Another tell tale sign of it being a living fossil is that it has a swim bladder capable of directly infusing oxygen to the blood vessels, something which lungs of terrestrial animals can do.

In the Amazon river alone, there are already three subspecies of the arowana fish, all stemming from the evolutionary branch of Osteoglossum (bony mouths). Since people started breeding these fishes outside the Amazon, there are already other species which can be found in Asia and Africa. The Amazonian arowana boasts a slender and broad body, but the newer species are shorter and stockier compared to the original generation.

Domestic fishes nowadays are getting smaller and more colorful; people tend to flock around fishes which look "cute" with vibrant colors resembling that of neon lights and commercial inks. With this trend, the arowana fish is reduced to just becoming a living fossil, a fish with jurassic and grotesque features. However, one should see the beauty in these fishes, and this beauty is not something many people take for granted. Just like in any beauty pageant, certain criteria, all set to critics' and experts' highest standards must be met.

One, there are the proportions, and for the arowana fish, the broad look is becoming more of the trend: wide body with well-proportioned fins and a pointed mouth forming a good slope between the head and its back. This look gives them the look of strength. Second is the color which should be bright, uniform, and lustrous with the hue depending on the variety. The scales should also be of the same color to each other and should be distinct from one another. Third are the fins, which should be not too long and cramped and should have a color not far from the body color. The barbels should also have the same color as that of the body's and should also look firm and long.

Fourth are the eyes, which should not be popping out and protruding. Fifth is the mouth, and the mouth of the arowana fish points upwards where either the upper or the lower lip protrudes. Sixth are the teeth which should look neatly arranged in line with its jaw. Lastly, and most importantly, is its swimming posture. Even though it looks like a misfit with its size and features, an arowana will always stand out because of its smooth and majestic movements; the swimming posture should not look shaky and erratic.

Cat Facts - Basic, Fun, Facts About Your Pet

,
3D ANIMATION :

Cats are amazing creatures; majestic, comical, ever changing, and diverse. Because of their agility, athleticism, and equipment--claws and teeth, they are considered to be perfect killing machines. Equally true, they are gentle companions who share our lives and household. They love to sit on our laps and be with us but don't respond to training like a dog. I've shared my life with cats since childhood. Here are a few basic facts for anyone interested in this amazing species.

The first thing you'll notice is that cats sleep a lot. They average 16 hours of sleep per day. When their up, they usually like to play, eat or groom. The amount of daily sleep can vary by cat, circumstance and breed. There are approximately 25-40 known breeds of cats. The largest is a Maine Coon which often weighs in excess of 20 LBs. Other cat breeds average 7-10 LB's. The lifespan of a cat varies depending on its breed and environment. Outdoor un-neutered male cats have a lifespan of just 4 years regardless of their breed. This is because many of them are hit by cars or infected with terminal illnesses. Indoor cats live much longer than outdoor cats due to lower stress, and lower exposure to disease. The Maine Coon has a short lifespan of approximately 8-10 years, whereas a Siamese often lives up to 20 years. Mixed breed cats typically live 12-18 years, but I've had mixed breeds live up to 24 years.

According to pet trainers, cats can be trained, but always keep in mind, the cat will only do what serves the cat's best interest. The best way to train a cat is by using food when the cat is hungry. Repeat the trick over and over and give a "treat" each time.

The body of a cat is amazing. The eyes are designed to detect the slightest movement. They see well in the dark. Their ears move so they can pick up the faintest sound-this explains why cats hate loud noises and unfamiliar sounds. The spine of a cat is incredibly dexterous, containing approximately 60 vertebrae compared to a humane spine which has approximately 24 vertebras. The tail can reflect a cat's mood, and is also used for balance. Most cats enjoy when we run our hand down their back and give a slight gentle tug on the tail, near the base of the tail. It gives the cat a little back stretch. The claws are retractable for ease of walking on any surface and extend to climb trees or catch prey. Cats are carnivores and should always eat a high protein diet. They are amazingly resourceful and prolific. A single mother and her first year offspring can produce in excess of 150 cats by the third year. This is why all cats need to be spayed and neutered before sexual maturity (approximately 6 months).

Centuries ago, humans and cats started sharing their environment. We don't know when this occurred, but most likely our ancestors valued cats for their ability to reduce rodent populations. During the Egyptian era, cats were revered. During the dark ages they were persecuted and wrongfully blamed for the black plague. Today approximately 30 percent of all households share their lives with cats. It's easy to understand why they are the most popular pet.

Famous Swedes Part 1

,
3D ANIMATION :

This article offers some background information on four prominent Swedes in the fields of science and engineering, although some of them may not be commonly recognised or known to be Swedish.

Hasselblad, Victor (1906 - 1978): Camera designer

You will probably know the product better than the man, since Hasselblad cameras are highly respected in the photographic world for their image quality, durability and reliability - the famous Apollo 11 pictures from the moon were taken with modified Hasselblad cameras. The original company was formed in Gothenburg in 1841 by Victor's great grandfather as a general import/export agency, and among the products it imported were supplies for the new field of photography.

Camera production only started during the Second World War, when Victor Hasselblad was asked to copy an aerial reconnaissance camera 'salvaged' from a German military aircraft that had crashed in Sweden. Hasselblad succeeded in designing and making an improved version, which he sold in quantity to the Swedish military. Only after the war did the company move into the civilian market, with a range of high quality, reliable, hand-held cameras.
Victor sold the company in 1976, just before his death in 1978, to a Swedish group, but since 2003 the majority of the shares have been owned by the Shriro Group of Hong Kong. You can read more about Victor Hasselblad's life and work at http://www.hasselblad.com

Linnaeus, Carl (1707-1778): Botanist

The name of Carl Linnaeus, often called the father of taxonomy, may not be familiar unless you are a botanist, but the system he developed for ranking, classifying and naming organisms (taxonomy) is still in wide use today, albeit greatly modified.

Linnaeus' method grouped classes of organisms (genera) into orders, orders into classes, and classes into kingdoms. Thus the kingdom Animalia contains the class Vertebrata, which contains the order Primates, which contains the genus Homo with its species Sapiens: humans. Linnaeus also developed the Latin twin-name convention that designates a first name to indicate the genus combined with a second to indicate the species: Homo Sapiens. He also first suggested that new genera could be produced through hybridization.

Born in 1707 in southern Sweden, Linnaeus went up to university to study medicine. Since most medicines were then herbal, botany was part of the curriculum. In 1741 he was appointed professor at Uppsala University, where he continued to revise and expand his Systema Naturae, which grew into a very extensive work as more and more plant and animal specimens were discovered through great voyages of discovery, such as those of James Cook. Linnaeus continued this work until his death in 1778, when his family sold his library, manuscripts and collections to the English natural historian Sir James Edward Smith, who founded the Linnean Society of London to house them.

For more information in English on Carl Linnaeus, you can visit the Linnean Herbarium at the Swedish Museum of Natural History, or Linnaeus's botanical garden, near the University of Uppsala. The Linnaean Society of London is still a top-ranking international society for the study of natural history, and is presently planning to celebrate the tercentenary of Linnaeus' birth next year.

Nobel, Alfred (1833 - 1896): Inventor of dynamite

This is one Swede you will have heard of: Alfred Nobel's invention of dynamite made him very wealthy, and what he did with his wealth made him very famous. On his death, he left his fortune to a Nobel Foundation to fund five Nobel Prizes, awarded in Stockholm and Oslo every year on 10 December, the anniversary of Nobel's death.

Alfred Nobel was born in Stockholm in 1833. His father was an engineer and inventor who also built bridges and buildings. He experimented with different techniques for blasting rocks: this is of great importance in Sweden, where very hard granite is often found just below the surface. Even simple tasks such as laying pipes or cables up a suburban street often requires blasting. Due to bankruptcy, Nobel and his family had to leave Stockholm to start a new career in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he started a workshop providing equipment for the Russian army and, later, explosive mines for the navy.

Meanwhile, Alfred was receiving a broad education in various countries. In Paris he met the inventor of nitro-glycerine, which is a very powerful but very unstable explosive and he understood that, in order to use it commercially, a way had to be found to stabilize it. In 1852 Alfred returned to work in the family business, which was booming due to its shipments to the Russian army during the Crimean War. Together with his father, Alfred began trying to develop nitro-glycerine as a commercially useful explosive. Then the war ended and Immanuel Nobel was again forced into bankruptcy. He and two of his sons, Alfred and Emil, left St. Petersburg and returned to Stockholm.

There, Alfred Nobel continued his work; this was highly dangerous and in one explosion his brother Emil and several others were killed. Unsurprisingly, Nobel was ordered to move his workshop out of Stockholm. To make nitro-glycerine stable, he tried various additives. He found that mixing nitro-glycerine with silica turned the liquid into paste, which could be shaped into sticks that could be inserted into holes drilled into the rock. In 1867, Nobel patented this material under the name 'Dynamite'. To detonate the dynamite, he had to invent a detonator that could be ignited by lighting a fuse. These inventions, together with diamond drill bits and pneumatic drills that came into use at that time, drastically reduced the cost of blasting rock, drilling tunnels and many other types of construction.

Nobel continued his research into the development of explosives technology as well as other chemical inventions, including such materials as synthetic rubber and leather, artificial silk, etc. Alfred Nobel never married and lived much of his life in Germany and Paris. However, the last five years of his life were spent at San Remo in Italy, where he died in 1896. To read more about Alfred Nobel and the Nobel Foundation, visit [http://nobelprize.org/nobelfoundation/index.html]

Ångström, Anders Jonas (1817-1874): Physicist and astronomer

Anders Jonas Ångström is best remembered as one of the fathers of modern spectroscopy and for the scientific unit named after him. Both he and his son Knut were professors of physics at Uppsala University, and the Ångström Laboratory, named in their honour, today houses most of the physics, astronomy and materials science departments of the University.

Anders Jonas Ångström was born in 1817 and went up to Uppsala University in 1833. He was awarded a doctorate in physics in 1839. His studies covered a wide area, including heat transfer and the earth's magnetism, but above all he was interested in astronomy. He is renowned as one of the founders of the science of spectroscopy, and in particular studied the spectra of the sun and of the Northern Lights. It was this work that led to the unit of wavelength named after him and still used in spectroscopy - the Ångström (1 Å = 1 x 10-10 metres) - although many scientists now prefer to use the nanometre (1 nm = 10Å). He died in 1874.

Facts on Leopard Gecko Reproduction

,
3D ANIMATION :

Leopard gecko reproduction is an important and rewarding part of any leo keepers experience. Not only will you get new leos, you'll also be able to produce more morphs through selective breeding. Learning how to reproduce known morphs can become quite lucrative for any breeder and keeper. So let's learn more about this interesting subject.

Sex Facts

One of the first skills you have to learn is how to determine the sex of your pet. The basic difference between the male and the female is the hemipenal bulge that exists only in males. This can be found on the underside of the animal near the tail just after the vent. You might also notice a 'V' shaped row of pores somewhere near the bulge. These are the male anal pores that should be very noticeable.

When you are new to sexing these animals, you might get confused by some strange but very possible female characteristics. Females also have pores in their hind side but they are not as noticeable as the males. Leos also naturally store fat in their tails. This fat can sometimes cause the tail to bulge up and can be mistaken as a hemipenal bulge in females. Be wary of these situations. If in doubt, try to ask a reliable breeder for confirmation.

Facts on Selective Breeding

The process of selective breeding can be one of the hardest to master. There are sometimes so many traits to keep track of that it ends up being a 'learn as you do' thing. Experience is invaluable but there are some things that you can know outright. One of them is the difference between recessive traits and dominant traits.

Dominant traits are the obvious traits that you can see. When you say that a trait is dominant, it is the trait that will appear should the leo inherit two 'genes' that determine a single trait (for example, should the lizard inherit a dominant trait like orange coloring versus a recessive trait of a different color, the orange will be the one visible even though the lizard has the genes for both traits).

Some common dominant traits would include the orange coloring for tangerines and hypos, the carrot tails, and the giants. Some common recessive traits would include albinism, the patternless morph, and blizzards.

Mating Facts

The mating process in leopard gecko reproduction can be quite violent at times. Males will often become aggressive towards females during the process. This is when you should be most careful. If your female does not accept the male's advances, she will start to fight back and you may end up with a lot of fighting resulting in injuries. If this happens when you attempt to mate your lizards, separate them at least for a few days. Try again once things have cooled down a bit.

Egg Facts

One of the cooler things you can do with leos is to control the sex of the next generation of lizards. You can use differing incubation temperatures to change the sex of the lizards while they are in their eggs. If you keep the temp at 79 to 84 degrees (right about the temp of the cool area of a tank), then you'll get females. If you keep the temp at around 86 to 90 degrees (about the temp of the warm area of the tank), then you'll get males.

Better Presentation Skills - Don't "Be a Speaker," Just Speak!

,
3D ANIMATION :

On some level, speaking is easy. You get in front of a group and start talking. However, to be a great speaker requires some information, practice, and work. Speaking is a skill like any other. It can be taught, it can be learned, and it can be improved.

In my experience, one of the biggest mistakes speakers make is to try to act like a "speaker."

This may be my biggest pet peeve. So many people are personable, engaging, and funny when you speak to them one on one, but when they get in front of an audience all that goes out the window.

Some of this may be from nerves, and that is understandable. Many times though, it is because the person is trying to take on a "speaker" persona.

You may have seen this before: someone who takes the stage and suddenly looks very wooden and fake. They gesture very deliberately, or keep their hands and body so still it looks unnatural. They may over-articulate, or speak in an odd cadence that you never hear except when someone is giving a speech.

Burn this into your head: the best speakers are the ones who speak naturally. When you see a great speaker, you will feel like he or she is having a conversation with you. What's amazing is that every single person in that audience, whether there are five people or five thousand, will feel the same way.

Drop everything you have ever learned about "being a speaker." Don't put on a character when you speak. Be yourself. Be as much yourself as you possibly can. If you are an animated talker who gestures, then do so. If you have a natural sense of humor, use it. If you like to move, then move.

Can some of these things get distracting? Sure, and later on they can be reigned in, controlled, and modified to not be distracting while still being natural. First though, you have to break through the conditioning that there needs to be a difference between "you" and "speaker you."

Remember, anyone can deliver your content. Only you can be you, and that's why you are the person up there giving the speech. Let yourself shine!

Winstrol (Stanozolol) - The Affectionate Winny!

,
3D ANIMATION :

Among the general public stanozolol is probably the most famous steroid in the world. It first gained international attention in 1988 when Canadian sprinter, Ben Johnson tested positive for the drug after winning the 100 meter race at the summer Olympics in Soel, Korea. In recent years a number of prominent baseball players, including Barry Bonds, have been accused of taking it. Stanozolol, was first developed in 1962 by Winthrop Laboratories and marketed under the trade name Winstrol. Stanozolol is commonly referred to as Winny, after the trade name, but in Europe, the most available form is called Stromba. The drug comes in two forms, an injectable form and an oral form. Both are equally popular and most bodybuilders use them daily.

Unlike most of the other injectable steroids, Stanozolol is not esterified and is usually sold as an aqueous suspension. The oral version of the drug has been chemically modified at its17 carbon position. This modification allows the drug to survive the first pass through the live when ingested.

Stanozolol has legitimate uses in both humans and animals. In humans, it is very effective in treating anemia. Veterinarians prescribe the drug to increase muscle growth, stimulate red blood cell production, promote bone density, and boost the appetites of sick or weakened animals.

Bodybuilders have become fond of Winny for a number of reasons. While not the most potent anabolic steroid available, Winstrol produces few side effects, provided it is not abused. Stanozolol is very effective at causing strength increases without excess weight-gain. It also increases muscle vascularity. For males one of Winny's greatest assests is that it doesn't readily convert to estrogen. Few bodybuilders report developing such side effects as gynocomastia, from using the drug.

Stanozolol has a number of properties that make it popular in precontest cycles and stacks. It does not cause excess water retention, and many bodybuilders find that it acts like a diuretic. There is also good anecdotal evidence to suggest that Winny is very effective at burning body fat while at the same time preserving muscle tissue - probably the two hardest things to do during the calorie-reduced precontest training period.

A good reason to avoid Stanozolol

We are not going to preach to you about the evils of using Stanozolol. But be aware that the drug can produce side effects and it is illegal. With the science of supplementation becoming so advanced there are now products that imitate illegal steroids. Users report that most of these steroid alternatives will produce muscle building and fat burning effects that are similar steroids. These safe legal analogs have been designed with the purist pharmaceutical grade ingredients to maximize your bodybuilding potential. Check them out!

The previous information has been created by experts to help you increase your knowledge base about anabolic steroids and bodybuilding supplements. Be knowledgeable. Be informed. Make the right choice!

Things to Think About When Creating a Birth Plan

,
3D ANIMATION :

While baby's rarely come when they are expected to, and they sometimes decide to arrive at the worst moment, simple planning steps can help to reduce the rush and confusion that is sometimes accompanied by a baby's arrival. Planning for the birth of your baby should include preparing your body and mind for the labor, preparing for where the birth is to take place and getting everything you will need together, and making sure that the home and nursery are ready for the baby's arrival.

Getting Your Body And Mind Ready For Labor

Preparing your body and mental state for the rigors ahead of time will help you, and your baby, to get through the labor process with a minimal amount of stress; you will also recover from your labor in less time and with less pain. Learn as much as you can about what your body will go through during the labor; the more you know the more prepared you will be for the changes that your body experiences during labor. An exercise routine will strengthen your body and keep you in shape for you and your baby's big day.

Mentally prepare for your labor by learning relaxation techniques that may help during the labor process. For example, positive visualization and breathing techniques are some of the methods you can use to stay focused during your labor.

Know What Type Of Birth You Want, And Where Your Want To Have Your Baby

Most women today have their baby in a hospital, and it is arranged ahead of time with their physician as to which hospital they are going to go to. Some women also opt to have their baby at home, or in a birth center. Wherever you decide to have your baby, plan it ahead of time. Do you want to have your baby naturally, or do you want pain control? Draw a map to your birthing place, keep it on you at all times, and practice driving the routes at least a few times; stress can do amazing things to our minds, and some frantic new mothers have experienced complete amnesia when they go into labor and forgot where they were suppose to go and how to get there. Take a tour of the place where you are going to give birth, and know where you will need to go upon arrival; this will help to eliminate any confusion for you or your partner on the big day.

Other aspects of your birth should be planned in advance as well. Do you want certain music playing during the birth? If so have a little portable stereo and the music ready to go. Do you want pictures of the birth or video? Are there any people that you want with you when you are in labor? If you will be staying at a hospital, pack a bag with baby necessities that you and your baby will need; do not expect the hospital to provide everything you need. Some of the items you will need are comfortable pajamas, socks, hygienic items, a brush, lotion, diapers, and baby clothes.

Prepare Your Home And Car For Baby's Arrival

When your baby arrives, you should only need to concentrate on caring for the baby. Trips to the store and grocery shops should not be your main concern. To help reduce post-baby stress, have your home and car ready for the baby a few weeks before the baby's arrival. You will need a lot of baby clothes, diapers, cleaning cloths, and a comfortable sleeping area for the baby like a crib or bassinet.

Anything that will help to reduce your stress levels when you come home with the baby should be taken into consideration. Try to keep the home clean, place fresh sheets and blankets on the bed, and have a refrigerator and freezer stocked full of easy to prepare meals. If you have animals you may want to arrange to have a pet sitter care for the animals before, and for a period of time after, the birth.

Arrange your ride home before the labor. If you need to take a cab home or someone is picking you up, have the number that you need ready along with the baby car seat. If you are taking your car home, clean the car out, have the car seat already in the car, and bring plenty of light blankets to make the baby as comfortable as possible.

Kenya - The Man Eaters Of Tsavo Still Live On

,
3D ANIMATION :

One of the most distinct characteristics of the African lion is its mane. The thick hair that grows around the head of the male lions, is a unique identity of its presence and signifies the state of health, age and sends a clear message to rivals about who is in charge. It is thick and has black hair for the lions that are in their prime. The mane is truly the crown of the king of the jungle.

Yet there exists a rare breed of lions that have males that do not have a mane. These lions are so rare that minimal studies have been undertaken to know about them. They are said to have an appetite for human flesh. The photographs of the fallen two man eaters of Tsavo taken by col J.H. Patterson after shooting them is probably the best memory of what the lions look like. There is every possibility that that breed still exists, with the appetite for human flesh very much maintained.

In Nakuru National park, there is a framed photogaph of Judy, a game warden who fell victim to a man eater from Tsavo. Tsavo National park is the biggest park in Kenya. It is not fenced and animals can roam freely for thousands of kilometres with minimal human interference. A couple of years ago, Kenya Wildlife Services captured what was reported as a troublesome lion and sent it to Nakuru National park for rehabilitation. It happened that the animal was a maneless male.

With abundance of grazing game, and with other several prides of lions in the park, the lion should be okay. Nothing could have been further from the truth. After only a couple of days, the lion struck to show its true kind. Judy was on duty at the main gate that evening. Around 7.00 p.m. she decided to go back to the camp for a sweater. She informed her colleagues accordingly and set out to the camp. The camp is only about one hundred metres from the gate.

Without her knowledge, Judy had company. She had her riffle at hand and was able to go all the way to the camp. At the camp, neighbours heard someone shout once. They listened for a second cry but it was not forthcoming. Looking outside, someone saw an outline of some animal.
But consequent searches bore no fruit. When they found the riffle, her alarmed colleagues checked with the armoury, to find that it belonged to Judy who was on duty at the gate only a couple of minutes before. The alarm was sounded and a massive search was undertaken.

They suspected a big cat, possibly a leopard or lion, but they were confused because both animals have been in this park for years and such a thing has never been experienced..After a four hour intensive search, one driver noticed a reflection in some bushes and circled the area again. He confirmed that indeed the pair of eyes were those of the killer animal. the bushes were sprayed with bullets and the beast killed. The body of Judy, lay there, with the neck broken but largely untouched. The man eaters of Tsavo had returned to haunt mankind.

One characteristic that was observed with those lions during the construction of the railway, was the dragging of their catch to the caves. They are expert killers, snatching individuals from camps without the any hint from neighbours, with the only confirmation coming during the morning roll call.Unexplained cases of drivers and loaders on the main Mombasa Nairobi highway disappearing while attempting to change spare wheels have been reported.

With the vastness of the Tsavo, we probably have man eaters that live entirely on human flesh, getting their prey from poachers who cant keep their fingers off the park, but whose families cant report to the authorities for fear of retribution. Whether the man eaters of Tsavo will come back in big numbers and spread to other areas in Kenya, brings forth a chilling thought considering their excellence in execution of the hunt.

Are You at Risk of Contaminated Drinking Water in Water Stations?

,
3D ANIMATION :

Contaminated drinking water presents a major health risk to people. Numerous studies have proven that there are contaminants in American drinking water sources and these do make their way to the kitchen faucet. Unfortunately most people are not aware of this or simple believe that these chemicals won't harm you.

The truth is that even if you do not notice any short term effect, there can be dangerous consequences in the long term. It is even believed that increased cancer rates worldwide are linked to drinking water stations being contaminated and unfiltered.

What is found in contaminated drinking water?

Viruses, bacteria, and parasites and other micro-organisms are what make it through to your home drinking water supply if your tap is unfiltered. In the past there have been outbreaks of various virus strains through drinking water contamination and there is no doubt this will occurs again. It is also thought that drinking water recycling will add even more virus contamination in the future.

In 1993 there was an outbreak of the parasite Cryptosporidium which affected over 500,000 people and caused 100 deaths. This outbreak was caused by animal waste not being filtered from public water systems. Due to the scale of this outbreak, the water turned brown in some areas which alerted people to a problem. Unfortunately most contamination does not cause any visible symptoms so people continue drinking it.

The only way to avoid drinking contaminated water at home is to install a home water filter system. There are many types available but the most common is the reverse osmosis system. These are affordable but do not filter out enough particles to be considered sage.

A better and more advanced filtration method is ion exchange, which is available in a few products. This approach can also be combined with other filter methods including carbon filtration and sub micron filtration. Filters that use combination filtering provide various levels of safety. If the particles get through one level, they are filtered out by one of the other methods.

Many workplaces use drinking water stations. Employees are lead to believe that these stations contain pure spring water or filtered water but they often contain just as many, if not more, microorganisms than tap water.

In conclusion, contaminated drinking water is a major health hazard and is something that the government chooses not to tackle head on. It is therefore up to you to protect yourself and your family from the dangerous micro-organisms in unfiltered tap water by purchasing a quality water filter that removes harmful substances but retains natural trace minerals.

There Virtual World Review - Create an Avatar & Life Out a Virtual Existence in a Fantastical World

,
3D ANIMATION :

With the success of Second Life, virtual reality simulations have come into their own in the past 5 years. Promising users an experience that transcends the limitations of real life, a virtual reality sim lets you be whatever you want to be right from the comfort of your own home. No wonder that the number of these virtual worlds/simulations has increased exponentially in the past few years.

There is a virtual world where you can create your own avatar and roam around in a 3D world populated by other There.com members. You can interact with other members, build your own houses, dress up your characters, buy stuff for them, etc. In other words, There aims to create an online identity for yourself that reflects the real you, or, as There.com itself puts it, be "everything you've imagined and wished for".

There is actually a downloadable application (around 500MB in size) that runs on your desktop. The system requirements are quite low and if you bought your PC within the past 2 years, you shouldn't have any problem running There.com.

There works on a membership model. Basic membership to the virtual world is free, but you have to shell out money for premium features like voice chat, or to buy virtual goods such as houses, clothing, accessories, etc.

Once you install the There.com application and become a member, you will be prompted to create your avatar. This 3D avatar will be your physical representation in the virtual world, and you have access to a wide variety of templates to pick from when making your avatar. You can dress up the model from a few different sets of clothing and accessories. Later on in the game, you can buy different items for your avatar to trick out his appearance.

After your avatar is created, you can basically walk around the various environments (desert, tropical paradise, city, town, etc.) chatting up with other members. If you have a premium membership, you can even voice chat with your fellow There.com users. There essentially works like a somewhat surreal simulation of real life; you will meet a wide variety of people in the virtual world, all dressed as wildly as you can possibly imagine.

Where There.com really shines is in its creation of a living, breathing world. You can buy and furnish your own house (and even put it up for rent), go shopping for shoes and clothing, buy yourself a car (or design your own ride), hold an exhibition of your 'art' (which you can later sell for Therebucks - There.com's virtual currency), create your own virtual movies, and lots, lots more. The way you interact with other members and the world around you makes for a delightful experience, and it is not extra ordinary to strike up deep and meaningful friendships with people halfway across the globe.

However, in terms of pure features and interactivity potential, There cannot hold a candle to Second Life. Although these are two completely different beasts (Second Life is more of a virtual reality simulation, while There is more chat and people oriented), comparisons to Second Life are inevitable, if unfair.

In terms of graphics, There does not match up to the latest PC games such as Call of Duty 4. Nonetheless, the "game" still looks quite good and runs very smoothly on even old PCs. There's servers are more than capable of handling the load of several thousand players, and there is hardly any lag while playing the game.

Users concerned about privacy issues will have to just buckle up and go with the flow. A virtual world, by default, does not endear itself to privacy, and There is no different. Although you can block individual users (or groups of users), it is very easy for other members to see what you've been up to in the game. Paranoid people should best avoid this game.

In conclusion, There is a great virtual world that excels in its handling of chat and people-to-people interactions. If you are looking for something more complex and demanding, you might be disappointed with the limited features that There offers, but for those of you looking to meet new people without all the hassles of a virtual life simulation, There is the perfect tool.

John Ratzenberger and His Roles in Pixar Movies

,
3D ANIMATION :

John Ratzenberger is an actor most famous for his role as a mailman named Cliff Claven in the 1980s sitcom Cheers. This was the place for his funnyman lines, being the sort of Know-it-all guy with an inflated ego.

Ratzenberger's got a unique voice and Pixar has kind of regarded him as their good luck charm. They create a character for him to voice if one hasn't been integrated into the story at the time.

Of all the Pixar roles Ratzenberger's gotten to play, the one that's his favorite is P.T. Flea, the hot-headed ringmaster of the Circus Bugs. John loves this character because he's so on edge and unpredictable.

What are the other characters he plays in Pixar films? Let's go through the list and find out.

Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 (coming June 2010): John Ratzenberger's Pixar movie role in the Toy Story movies is Hamm the piggy bank. Hamm is pals with Mr. Potato Head and they do well together with their sarcastic wit. Hamm's a bit of a pessimist and likes to take pot shots at his fellow toys, often jumping to the wrong conclusions about them too quickly.

A Bug's Life: In the second Pixar film, as mentioned, Ratzenberger's role was that of P.T. Flea, ringmaster for the troupe of Circus Bugs. He's greedy, demanding and obsessed with money. Being a highly irritable bug, he fires the troupe after they failed the "Flaming Death" performance.

Monster's Inc.: In 2001, John Ratzenberger's role in Monsters Inc. was for The Abominable Snowman, a monster who had been banished from Monstropolis some time ago. Mike and Sulley were also banished when they discovered Henry Waternoose's agenda and were sent to the snowy Himalayan mountains where they meet Mr. Abominable. Looming and frightening at first, he quickly greets the two with "Welcome to the Himalayas!" and is a hospitable, gentle creature. Personally, he is my favorite Ratzenberger-voiced character!

Finding Nemo: The role John plays in this film is unique; it's not a single character, but a school of moonfish. Marlin and Dory cross paths with the school of moonfish as they search for a way to get to Sydney, Australia. The moonfish swim together with remarkable precision and can make pictures of such shapes as an octopus and the Sydney Opera House. They poke fun of Marlin by making his shape and moving his mouth as he explains something to Dory, whom he's upset. In the end, the moonfish make a brilliant, flashing arrow, pointing the way to the East Australian Current, the superhighway direct to Sydney.

The Incredibles: Stick around to the very end for The Incredibles, because John Ratzenberger's minor role doesn't occur until, literally, the end of the film. After the Parr family (The Incredibles) defeat the Omnidroid and Syndrome, they think they're back into a life of normal routine. As the family is leaving the track event Dash just finished, a villain named The Underminer breaks through the surface of the parking lot in an enormous drilling machine. He's a mole-like monster who declares war on peace and happiness. The Incredibles family don their masks, ready for the challenge of defeating a new bad guy.

Cars: Big, lovable and loyal, Razenberger's role on this Pixar film is Mack, a 1985 Mack Semi-Hauler who wears the red and white Rust-Eze cap and pulls the fancy, state-of-the-art container for Lightning McQueen. Even when the rest of McQueen's crew quit on him for being so arrogant and obnoxious, Mack sticks by him. McQueen later demands that Mack drive all through the night to get to LA for the tiebreaker race of the Piston Cup. Mack can barely stay awake though, and finally dozes off when a gang of street racer cars put on some pretty music. This is when the trailer door opens and Lightning McQueen's adventure begins.

Ratatouille: Ratzenberger's role for Ratatouille is in a restaurant full of colorful characters. He plays Mustafa, the head water of Gusteau's in Paris, France. Mustafa is a plump man with a thin mustache. He's great at taking orders, but only if they're off the menu. When the feared food critic Anton Ego snidely tells Mustafa to "Serve me some fresh perspective," the waiter looks like a deer caught in the headlights, frozen with fear and confusion. What's that supposed to mean, he wonders.

WALL-E: John plays John in WALL-E. John is one of the passengers aboard The Axiom starliner who is lost in his own world with holographic screens and a sedentary lifestyle. Robots wait on him every moment of the day and in the movie John mistakes WALL-E for a drink-bot and falls out of his chair. This is what "wakes" him up and the small robot introduces himself to John. Later on, John meets Mary, another passenger who has been awakened from the oblivion around her. Together they watch EVE and WALL-E space dancing outside and then they notice one another, feeling an attraction. They help one another save babies when Auto tries to take over the ship and John shows some real leadership qualities.

Up: Ratzenberger's role in this Pixar film is Tom, a construction worker on the site surrounding Carl Fredricksen's home. John relates to Tom because he used to be a house framer before his career in acting took off. Tom is friendly toward the old man Carl, and makes an offer on the house on behalf of his boss. But his answer is met with a face full of wind as Carl points the leaf blower at him. Carl then takes Tom's megaphone and insults his boss, to which Tom shouts back urgently that he's not with him. Poor Tom!

These are the Pixar Roles that John Ratzenberger has played thus far. I hope that Pixar continues this tradition along with the many other fun traditions in their animated films. The characters and roles Mr. Ratzenberger shall play in future films will be so much fun to listen for as we sit in the theater immersed in a great Pixar story.

3D Animation Movie Maker - The Evolution of Making Animations at Home

,
3D ANIMATION :

I guess a lot of people would like to make their own movies. By that I mean to go beyond editing together movie clips taken while on holiday, to making movies which tell a story. In most cases professional actors are expensive and most friends don't make good actors. This is why making a 3D animation movie is a satisfying low cost alternative.

I remember a holiday movie my father made in the 1950s. It had an animated title filmed, like the rest of the movie on 8mm celluloid film. When I asked him about it, he told me he had put his camera in a clamp pointing at the floor. He then created the first letter of the title using a piece of string and filmed it for a couple of seconds, then he created the second letter and so on. It was several days later, when the film came back from the developing laboratory that he discovered that his desk lamp had not really been adequate to illuminate his work properly.

Then along came computers. It took a while before computers got good at graphics, even stationary ones. But of course they did eventually get good, not only at rendering still scenes, but also animations. Unfortunately Hollywood studios being able to afford high powered hardware and software did not make it accessible to the amateur movie maker.

The high price of professional 3D animation software led to the concept of Machinima. In Machinima inexpensive computer games are used to record 3D animated movie clips. Some computer games have a camera or record function built into them, and for others which do not, there are additional utilities such as Fraps, which can be used for recording the game action.

Popular Machinima games include Quake, Unreal Tournament and SIMS 2. These games come with the ability to design your own sets and characters, either as part of the main game itself or using utilities, which are provided with the game. Admittedly getting exactly the movie clips you want from these games can be challenging. I never did find out how to part characters in Unreal Tournament or Quake from their guns, which meant unless you wanted to make a shoot 'em up movie, they were not ideal. No doubt obstacles like this could be overcome, but it seemed you could not get very far unless you were prepared to get immersed in scripting language.

Of the three games I have mentioned, SIMS 2, is probably the easiest to use for making Machinima, except that the characters, or in our case actors, tend to have minds of their own. So your movie star may wander off part way through filming, or someone else you don't recognize, might suddenly turn up and disrupt the scene you are shooting. With SIMS 2 you might even find your movie set spontaneously combusting during filming if you forgot to buy fire insurance. Perhaps this is like movie making in real life, but I would prefer not to have to put up with all of these uncertainties.

So you may wonder why no one has produced a budget software product, specifically for the purpose of making 3D animations at home. In fact Microsoft did exactly that in the mid 1990s with a product called 3D Movie Maker, which they targeted at the kids market. However the product was designed for early PCs, so it was pretty basic, on most home PCs it was slow, and it was soon discontinued.

Recently there has been recognition of this unfulfilled need. Reallusion in particular, has developed a 3D animation movie maker called iClone. This software is pretty much a dream come true for anyone who wants to tell a story using 3D animation. In its basic form it costs about the same as a new top end computer game, while the more advanced and more useful Pro version is still very reasonable.

Although you could make a whole movie in iClone, I find it is best to use it to construct a series of 3D animation movie clips and to then edit them together using Microsoft Movie Maker, which comes as part of Windows, or using a more advanced home movie editing suite such as Pinnacle Studio.

Other key points to note about iClone are that if you want to get up and running very quickly, there is a good library of actors, scenes and props, which you can purchase to add to the collection, which comes with the program itself. On the other hand if you are short of cash and prefer to build everything yourself and have plenty of time to spare, you can do that too using the tools included in the software.

One optional utility, which I recommend purchasing bundled with the iClone, is Reallusion's 3DXchange. This allows you to import content from other sources, including Google 3D Warehouse, which is a fantastic resource full of free models of buildings and other props, to enhance your 3D animations.

I find it amazing to think that with a budget of less than ,000 I can now purchase a PC and the software required to make 3D animation movies, when twenty years ago I would have needed $ millions for less capable facilities.

Free Anime Movies

,
3D ANIMATION :

The term "Anime" refers to Japanese animation movies, sometimes called as Japanimation. Japanese comics called Manga heavily influence Anime movies. They are made of bright colors and stylized images with variety of settings and storylines. They cater to a large and varied audience all over the world.

The term Japanimation preceded Anime but has now fallen to disuse. Earlier, in the1970's and 1980's the term was common. But in 1990's, animation movies reached worldwide market, so Japanimation refers now only to domestic animation. In Europe, Japanese animation is also called as Manga after the Japanese comics.

Osamu Tezuka's "Astro Boy" in 1963 was the first popular Anime series. In the 1970's the Japanese animation industry split from its Western roots and started unique genres like Giant Robots. The 1980's saw a boom in anime production and 1990's and 2000's saw the rising popularity of anime in the overseas market. In 2003, Spirited Away won the Oscar for best animated feature.

Anime covers a wide range of genres like science fiction, romance, live action, fantasy, erotica, adventure, and even social commentary. Most Animes come in three formats-films, television series and original video animation. Films are released in theatres and have the highest budgets and the best video quality. Popular Anime films include Akira and Spirited Away. A television series is syndicated and broadcast on T.V. and an original animated video is similar to a made for TV movie.

There's is a controversy around fan subs that are Animes subtitled by fans and released for download through Bit Torrent and distributed for free. Also problematic are bootleg versions of Animes from Southeast Asia.

Free Anime movies are available at a few sites that allow free downloads of several types of movies or are exclusively dedicated to Anime movies. For example, a new site called Anime Monarchy is a one-stop site for free shows like Pokemon and movie downloads like Kiki's Delivery Service, Anime games and Anime lyrics. Besides these, Anime Collections.com, 1StopMovies.com and TV Central have free Anime movie downloads.

Morocco: Marriage of Old and New

,
3D ANIMATION :

Anyone desiring an adventure in a foreign land should consider Morocco in northwest Africa. The marriage of old and new gives depth and interest to a visit.

The vista from the water appears as if from the Arabian Nights with sand dunes casting shadows in the moonlight as the ocean laps on the white beaches. Ancient towns drowse in the African sun as robed men and women travel by foot, by donkey, or by car. Europeans and Americans pass by in late model vehicles. Morocco's combination of the most modern life with the most ancient of entities fascinates, interests, and excites me as I travel.

The sun causes the city to shine like a pearl nestled by the Atlantic. Casablanca (which means white house), the gateway to Morocco, meets the eyes first in this place of adventure and beauty. From the contemporary, busy harbor to the center of the city, swarm multicolored, diversely dressed people. A flock of bright-hued, short-skirted girls with long hair flying clack by in their chunky heels. Behind glides a somber group of burnoosed Fatima faces veiled and mysterious. A young Frenchman, in the latest style, saunters by a beggar in robe and dirt. A half-naked toddler, all dark eyes and watery sores, stares at another child dressed in clean clothes riding in a stroller.

In the midst of the metropolis, I visit moderately tall high-rise buildings and many of the latest stores. Then after a short walk or ride in any direction, I discover lovely old villas arrayed in yellows, reds, blues, greens -- all flowers and plants. Tucked in here and pushed in there, dirty and cramped stores attract my attention. A little farther away stand shacks of straw, cardboard, mud, or tin, where misery, filth, and poverty of unbelievable depth live. The contrast between the rich being so rich and the poor being so poor shocks me.

When I leave the city, a modern ribbon of asphalt runs into fog-wrapped foothills. Along the roadside, a native man upon his donkey rides before the less-than-animal woman trudging behind. A dark-faced man with a smile-flash of white tries to take all the road with one small bicycle. A European whizzes by in a bug-like car; a limousine, chauffeur driven, majestically rolls past bearing a powerful sheik.

In towns or cities, such as Marrakech, easily accessed commercial areas provide for business needs. Behind low walls, villas or modest homes line wide boulevards. Along narrow winding streets that cars cannot maneuver, doors from windowless houses open directly onto the roadway. The dwellings abut each other, closely packed side by side. Children run chasing and kicking a ball, as veiled women return from market carrying the day's needs in net bags or in bundles upon their heads.

Beyond the town boundaries, a donkey and a camel yoked together plow a field. The camel will not cooperate; the donkey has to turn him. In the field next door, an American-made tractor does the work in much less time.

Here and there small settlements break the skyline with most of the huts made of wood, mud, or tin; the out-buildings, of straw. Occasionally a more affluent home of stone, built around an open courtyard, appears. Little beauty such as flowers or trees brighten the outside of the drab humble "home."

In Morocco exist the wealthy and the indigent; but even more evident are the modern and the ancient ways. The rich, the poor, the old, and the new bring a flavor of enchantment to a country of Arabian Night mystery.

Ten Terrific Ideas For Rainy Day Fun

,
3D ANIMATION :

It's been raining for a week and the kids and bored and restless. How do you cure those rainy day blahs? Try some of these parent tested and kid approved ideas and your children will be hoping for another rainy day when the sun finally peaks through.

1. Share a book. Pick an action packed, funny book and take turns reading aloud. Some great choices are My Brother Louis Measures Worms by Barbara Robinson, The Great Brain by John Fitzgerald or Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parrish. For more great reads, check with your local library. Your librarian should have reading lists available.

2. Put on a play. Your children can write their own play and act it out or make paper bag puppets for additional fun. A great book for quick and easy skit ideas is The Skit Book by Margaret Read MacDonald.

3. Go on an indoor picnic. Put out a blanket and pack a basket full of goodies. For a quick but special picnic lunch, jazz up ordinary sandwiches with cookie cutters in animal shapes.

4. Hold rainy day Olympics. Make the events things that can be done in the house, such as standing on one leg or seeing who can make his bed the fastest. Give the winners chocolate coins instead of medals.

5. Learn a new craft or hobby. Check your local library for instructional videos that will tell you how to knit, crochet or paint and buy enough supplies for everyone to give it a try. If you decide to learn to knit or crochet, your children can make scarves or blankets to donate to a local shelter.

6. Hold a fancy dress party. Put together a trunk of old cocktail dresses, suits, fancy hats, and costume jewelry. Have everyone dress up and give prizes for the most creative and fancy costumes.

7. Go on safari. Make an indoor tent by draping a blanket over a table or several chairs. Serve trail mix as a snack and provide binoculars for hunting wild animals. Then pull up a cushion and read Maurice Sendek's Where the Wild Things Are or play a video or DVD about wild baby animals.

8. Get ready for a yard sale. Work with your children to clean out the attic, garage and bedrooms. Clean and price all the items and box them up by category so that you can quickly set up your sale on the next sunny weekend.

9. Have an indoor market. Buy snacks, activities, and other inexpensive items and set up a store table for each child. Provide market baskets and spare change so they can buy from each other and make sure you stop by the shops, too. For additional fun, let them keep their profits to restock their shops for the next rainy day.

10. Make portrait cookies. Buy a sugar cookie mix, a gingerbread cookie cutter, colored icing and sprinkles. Roll out the sugar cookies and help the kids cut out their people and then let them decorate the gingerbread men to look like themselves, friends and family. For additional fun, find dog or cat cookie cutters so your children can include the family pet.

A Survey Of Common Dog Health Problems

,
3D ANIMATION :

Canine health can be just as demanding and difficult to maintain as human wellness. Keeping your canine companion in top form requires more than just knowing how to feed him and care for him: you need to understand the warning signs for the most common forms of dog illness.

Lyme Disease

Transmitted by ticks, this disease is common to humans and canines both. In canines, it is often difficult to spot it until some of the most overt signs surface. Initial symptoms include lack of energy and lack of appetite, but are rarely more specific. Lameness or difficulty moving is a much more common and definitive symptom.

Ear Infection

Many different situations can cause canine ear infections. Infections can arise due to ear mites, bacterial infection elsewhere, allergic reaction, or poor ear care. The signs of an ear infection are easy to recognize. A canine with an ear infection will constantly scratch at its ears. It may react negatively when touched near the ears, or shake its head in an attempt to relieve the discomfort.

Cancer

As more canines live longer, this dog illness becomes more prevalent. It now develops in 50% of canines over 10 years old. The symptoms are highly varied and depend heavily on what kind of cancer the animal is suffering from and other dog health problems they may have. In general, look for fatigue, restlessness, or general sudden change in mood. Also examine your pet for tumors, a telltale sign of cancer.

Bloat

This chronic condition can quickly become one of the more life threatening dog health problems. Signs of canine illness include disinterest in food and inability to settle comfortably. A distended stomach is also present, but may not be able to be detected outside of a vet's office.

Rabies

Spread by bites from other infected animals, rabies is easy to prevent: you can curtail all related dog health problems by simply vaccinating your canine companion in the first place. Otherwise, rabies can be potentially life threatening to you and to your canine.

Distemper

This dangerous disease can be fatal, especially in puppies or older canines. The first signs will be a running nose, accompanied by heavy vomiting and diarrhea. As the disease progresses, additional symptoms may include dehydration, breathing problems, refusal of food, and increasing weight loss. Neurological signs such as muscle twitching or seizures are vitally important telltale symptoms. Thickening of the footpads is difficult to observe without medical training, but is also a distinctive sign.

Heartworm

Although technically a parasite, heartworm is still a significant factor in dog illness. Heartworm itself is transmitted by a simple mosquito bite, which then places the parasite within the canine's body. Dog health problems begin six months or more after infection. Before this, the parasite is small and not yet having a major impact on the body. Signs include coughing and a lack of energy with predisposition to exhaustion. If left untreated, fainting, coughing of blood, and weight loss will eventually progress to become congestive heart failure and death.

These common dog health problems can all be serious for your pet's health and comfort. If you have even the slightest suspicion that one of them might be present, don't delay - take your pet to the vet quickly.

The Beginner's Garden - A Starting Point

,
3D ANIMATION :

Introduction

Gardening: You have wanted to begin a new hobby, but have no idea how to start. Or maybe you have never been exposed to planting a crop and watching it grow. What is fertilizer and how do you apply it? What types of fertilizer will help plants to grow, and what happens if you use too much of them? How are fertilizers categorized? All of these questions and more will be answered in the following. If you want to know about gardening, growing edible plants, herbs or just flowers, then please, read on.

Gardening can be a very rewarding hobby whether you want to beautify your yard, or help feed your family. On the other hand, however, the other side of this hobby can be frustrating and feel like a genuine waste of time. Worst yet, any mistakes you made during the planting, growing, or general care of your crop will not be discovered until weeks or even months later. The purpose of this article is to help correct or even avoid those mistakes that will devastate your crop. With that said I would like you to understand one thing before I go any farther: if this will be your first garden, do not over expect anything. What do I mean by this? I mean this: You will still make mistakes. That is certain, and no matter how much knowledge you have of gardening will stop that process. But there is hope. The hope that is there is simple. Turning your knowledge from reading articles like this one, researching the crop you want to plant, and other sources into experience. Once you have done that, the mistakes will subside, and your crops will look like those in a magazine. With all of that said, let us jump straight in head first.

The first thing that you must decide when pursuing this hobby is to pursue this hobby from an interest in it. I assume since you are reading this article, you have already accomplished this. The second thing that you must do is to decide where to put your garden. Here are some things that you must consider when attempting to make this decision.

Is there adequate sunlight? The area for your proposed garden must have a good supply of sunlight. As you know, you will be planting plants. Also, as you know, plants depend on sunlight in order to complete their life cycles. One of these life cycles is especially important to you, reproduction. Yes, I said reproduction. A great deal of the fruits and vegetables that you currently enjoy are the offspring of their parent plants. Another life cycle that you are concerned about is the fruit bearing. In some plants this cycle happens just before the reproductive action. One factor in all of these cycles is sunlight.

How much shade is in the possible spot, and at what positions do the shadows cover during the times of day? Shade can exist in your proposed garden, but care must be exercised when deciding how and where to place your plants. The really big thing about shade is the fact that it can't stay in the same place. For example, if you have one tree cast a shadow on one area of the garden from 6 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon, and another tree close by that casts shade on the same space for the rest of the day, this would not be a good place to plant corn because corn requires a lot of sun light to be at its best.

Is there a possibility of effective irrigation? Irrigation is another factor that must be considered. This consideration will also affect the size of your garden. But, just watering your plants is not quite good enough. You must also consider how the water will be delivered to the garden, and what ingredients are in the water. For example, if there is a great deal of chlorine in the water, this may impede growth of the garden. Another thing that must be considered when watering is run off. Run off is simply the direction that extra water that is not absorbed into the ground travels. If you water your garden for two hours every night, but only the first thirty minutes are absorbed into the soil, where does the rest of the water go? Does it just stay in the garden, or does it end up in your neighbor's basement?

Can you defend this area from neighborhood animals (dogs, cats, other animals)? The dog down the street will be delighted in the new burial ground that you have just made for him. I know that is not what you intended, and the crop that you planted won't matter much to him. But the point is this: you must be able to defend you garden against the lovable animals that you look at every day. It may only take a fence, and in most cases, that is all it will take. The other kind of intruders is pests. Bugs will eat your crop before you have a chance to. Be sure that you properly treat your garden against bugs, but be equally sure that the pesticide won't contaminate your crop.

Where is your septic tank if you have one? The location of your septic tank is important because you simply do not want to plant your garden on top of it. This is especially true if you plan to use a tractor in your garden. But why wouldn't you want to plant on top of a septic tank? Well, you take the time to plant the best garden that you have ever planted, and it looks great. You can't wait until the harvest, and you can almost taste your crop. That is until your septic tank backs up. You call a plumber, and he gives you the bad news. He has to dig the tank up to repair it. You know what this spells for your perfect garden: destruction.

How close are your neighbors to the garden? The location of your garden will also be determined by the location of your neighbors. This factor will be important when it comes time for fertilization, which will be covered later.

Are there any underground wires that may be snagged during tilling or plowing? If you live in an area where shallow buried wires may exist, then you must be extremely careful to avoid them. These wires usually are limited to cable television, telephone or the like. To find out whether there are wires buried and where they are, the local telephone, cable, or power companies can provide this information with a simple phone call.

Are there any rocks, gravel or concrete in the area? Finally, any rocks or concrete will be a problem when it comes time for tilling, but these problems will be corrected by a good quality tiller. Usually the tiller will dig up these foreign bodies and all you will have to do is to pick them up and cast them aside.

After these questions have been answered, then you may choose a good place for your garden.

After you have decided on a suitable place for your garden, then the preparation of the soil for fertilization can begin. Fertilization can either make or break your crop. If used incorrectly, then you could burn your plants. However, if used correctly your garden will flourish. There are different kinds of fertilization that you can use for your garden. I categorize fertilizers into two categories: natural and artificial. Some may call these categories organic and inorganic. An example of natural fertilizer is compost or manure. To learn more about what compost is, how to make it, and its many uses, visit this very useful blog: http://www.hometownfarming.blogspot.com. Artificial fertilizers are commercially sold nitrogen and other chemicals that are used to feed the plants directly. One advantage that I have noticed about artificial fertilizers is the fact that they can be mixed with water, being able to be absorbed by the plants quicker than terrestrial based fertilizers. However, I would like to point out that I have had much better experience with organic fertilizers such as compost. Compost and manure can be put into the soil before planting season by "plowing them under" after scattering them. To scatter, just spread the manure or compost as you would sand. After the scattering is done, use a tiller to till it under. By the term "till or plow it under" I simply mean to mix it with the soil. After that is done, wait for the last frost of the year, and the planting can begin.
